What is heartburn?

  • When foods that you eat are pushed back up into the esophagus along with the acid that is trying to digest it, you are left with a burning pain in the chest area.
  • The lining of the esophagus (the tube that runs from your throat to your stomach) is not as tough as the lining of your stomach.  This means that burning sensation is really doing a lot of damage.
  • Keeping a food journal for a time will usually pinpoint which foods are causing the eruption.

Foods that cause heartburn

  • Acidic (meat, tomatoes)
  • Processed foods (hot dogs)
